100 YEARS AGO, SEPTEMBER 22, 1921

▮ Abut 40 members of the Kiwanis Club were in attendance at the regular noonday luncheon in the Central Hotel dining room today. In addition to the regular business the Kiwanians spent some time rehearsing the stunts which the local men expect to pull on the state convention at Lima next Tuesday. An effort will be made to le the Kiwanis clubs over the state know that Wapakoneta is on the map. Dudley Nichols, former resident of this city, son of Dr. Grant B. Nichols, and now engaged in journalist­ic work in connection with a New York newspaper, was a guest of the club and delivered a short talk to the members.

▮ City Solicitor Karl Timmermeis­ter received a handsome German-made razor this morning from Theodore Vorhees, son of Fire Chief and Mrs. Oscar Vorhees, is stationed with the American forces along the Rhine, with headquarte­rs at Coblenz. The razor is a gold crown affair, handsomely decorated.

▮ Bob Seitz of the Wapakoneta Overland Sales Co. left this morning for Richmond with a Reo truck that he will have fitted with a Wayne body for the Trustees of Wayne township. The Reo was sold by the Overland agency in competitio­n with 11 other truck agencies.

75 YEARS AGO, SEPTEMBER 22, 1946

▮ Elementary School News

▮ Some of our pupils have come down with mumps since school began. If you were to ask any of these patients, they would say they have had anything but a “swell” time during their period of confinemen­t to the home. Electa Botkin, Peggy Frame, and Ronald Kennedy of 6-A. Betty Davis and Marjorie Botkin, of 5-A. Jack Gierhart and Warren Keller, of 4-A. And Jimmy Naylor of 4-B. We hope that these boys and girls will not have to have any more such uncomforta­ble sickness again this year.

▮ Williamson pupils, who will co-operate with Mr. Kline of the Disabled Veterans’ Organizati­on in the annual sale of forget-me-nots, include the following: from our two 6th grades: Emma Jane Abe, Roberta Brackney, Charles Brading, Electa Botkin, Donna Jean Frank, Sandra Freeman, Nancy Headapohl, Sharon Hoegner, Evelyn Lunz, Richard Mccormick, Charles Mies, Carolyn Pruitt, Tommy Rickert, Martha Ruck, Nancy Stroh, Dick Veit, Paul Wilges, Barbara Wolfe, and Norma Zwiebel.

50 YEARS AGO, SEPTEMBER 22, 1971

▮ The Wapakoneta Area Jaycees, that active group of young men dedicated to community service will have their annual chicken barbeque this Sunday. Adults, $1.50, children, 75 cents. And to show you how far they are willing to go to make a sale, they will deliver free within the city limits of Wapakoneta.

▮ Leonard Sheipline who formerly operated the Firestone store in town, has for the past five years been delivering Airstream trailers to customers in 31 states. He left yesterday afternoon for Orlando, Florida.

▮ And at the Wapakoneta Country Club this Sunday, the last big golf event of the season will be held. The Mixed Scramble threesomes will play for merchandis­e prizes/ If you’re big on lasagna, following the gold you will be able to eat all you want for $2.75.

25 YEARS AGO, SEPTEMBER 22, 1996

▮ The Wapakoneta girls soccer team brought its shooting shoes to Ryan Field on Saturday, The team scored five goals in the first half as they went on to defeat Greenville 6-2. Desiree Erb was the big gun for the team, turning the hat trick by scoring three goals. Amy Klaus added a goal, as did Amanda Liffiton. Wapakoneta coach Julie Crow said that…she sees her team starting to gel together as it heads into the postseason play. “We’re really starting to peak,” Crow said.
