Consistent Trojans fourth at state
COLUMBUS — Botkins finished fourth among 12 teams competing at the
OHSAA Division III Boys Golf State Championships on Saturday.
Playing at Ohio State University Golf Club’s Scarlet Course, the Trojans were fourth after Friday’s first round and held their position despite windy conditions in Saturday’s final round.
“The conditions on Saturday
were windy, and we
haven’t played in that much this season,” Botkins coach Brett Meyer said. “When
it’s that windy and you put a certain spin on the ball, the wind could make it worse or even accentuate what you’re trying to do. If
the wind is behind you, it’s going to go further that what you want or, if you’re
trying to hit into the wind, you have to think about what club that you want to use. If you would normally use a 9-iron, you might
have to use a 7-iron to get the same distance in windy conditions.”
Berlin Hiland win the Division III state team title with a 614 (310-314 in both
rounds), followed by Gates Mills Gillmour Academy (312-320—632), Newark Catholic (323-335—658),
Botkins (326-343—669), Kalida (337-334—671), Cincinnati Seven Hills (328-346— 674), Manchester (342-354—696), Minster (357-339—696), Toledo Ottawa Hills (353-343—696),
Ottoville (343-358—701), Dalton (353-355—708) and Independence (354-368— 722).
Worthington Christian’s Sam Evans won the state medal by shoot a 1-under 70 in Friday’s first round
and followed that with a 2-over 73 in Saturday’s final round.
Botkins freshman Ross Dietz led the Trojans by finishing in a five-way for 19th with a two-round total of 163 (77-86).
BHS senior Jameson Meyer
was among a three-way tie for 32nd with a 168 (8583). Fellow seniors Jack Dietz (81-89—170) and Isaac Cisco (86-85—171) and

“It was the second time being at state for a seniors
so I think that factored it,” Coach Meyer said. “I
thought we had a very good showing by coming
