Botkins boys secure district runner-up finish

CEDARVILLE — The Botkins boys and girls teams both advanced from the OHSAA Division III

Southwest District Cedarville Championsh­ips on

Saturday at Cedarville University.

In the boys race, team champion Fort Loramie

held a 49-65 margin over runner-up Botkins. The rest of the field included Anna (130 points), Mechanicsb­urg (148), Russia (177), Cedarville (177), Legacy

Christian (198), Houston (206), Covington (227), Miami East (296), Newton Local (308), Greeneview (335), Ansonia (346), Franklin

Monroe (360), Arcanum (390), Lehman Catholic (423), Triad (471), Jackson

Center (481), Springfiel­d Emmanuel Christian (491), Tri-county North (510),

East Dayton Christian (621), Tri-village (641) and Yellow

Springs (665). Bradford, Dixie, Fairlawn, Mississina­wa Valley, National Trail,

Northeaste­rn, Riverside,

Southeaste­rn, Springfiel­d Catholic Central, Twin Valley South did not have complete teams.

The top eight boys teams and male runners who finished among the top 32 individual­s advanced to the

Division III Southwest District Regional Championsh­ips on Saturday at Troy.

Anna’s Hayden Schmidt was the district medalist in 15 minutes, 52 seconds. Fort

Loramie’s Colin Gasson (16:23) and Colten Gasson (16:24) placed second and third, respective­ly, in the individual standings.

Keaton Schnippel led Botkins by finishing seventh in 16:49. The rest of the Trojans included Parker Schnippel (tenth in 16:59), Shane Weatherhea­d (12th in 17:02), Carter Pleiman (16th in 17:20), Carson

Brown (20th in 17:27), Grant Flora (29th in 17:45) and Cole Steinke (33rd in 17:49).

In the girls race, Fort Loramie and West Liberty-salem each scored 53 points,

but the Redskins won the team championsh­ip by

having a better sixth-place individual finisher. The rest of the field included Anna (106), Versailles (112), Arcanum (130), Botkins (132), Cedarville (206), Russia (225), Miami East (240), Covington (283), Mechanicsb­urg (336), Ansonia (352), Houston (359), Springfiel­d Emmanuel Christian (365), Franklin Monroe (402),
