Quarterpalooza returns as CHS fundraiser
After a year off, Cridersville Historical Society is getting ready
for its traditional quarter auction - now called Quarterpalooza - this
Saturday. The auction will be at the fire department with doors
opening at 6 p.m. The actual auction starts at 7, which gives potential buyers plenty of time to peruse the items for sale. All proceeds from the event will go towards replacing logs at the Daniel Bowsher log home., which
itself is part of the Cridersville Historical Society.
“This has been really fun in past years,” Stacey Cook, auctioneer for the event, said.
Items for sale will include
holiday decorations, a tool box, Berkshire throws, a Tv/radio, peanut butter pies and a chocolate
basket from Winans. Local vendors will also be donating their goods.
“We’ll have something for everyone in the family,” Cook said.
Lori Bellman, chair for the auction, said the event typically draws 115-120 visitors bidding on the 75-100 items for sale.
“It’s attended by a good variety of people,” Bellman said.
Prizes will be labeled as being either one, two, three or four ticket entries.
A $5 fee is required to enter the building, and tickets for prizes can only be purchased at the door.
Pizza from CJ’S, popcorn, soda and water will be available.
“It is a nice event [where] community members come together to be able to participate in a fun event, Cook said.
The quarter auction has proved to be one of the largest fundraisers for the historical society, and according to Bellman typical
events raise roughly $3,000 for the historical society.
“That’s a good fundraiser for a small, local nonprofit historical society,” Cook said.
Eventually, they’d like to take profits and to help build an
addition to the back of the mseum.
“We have so much stuff that it would be nice to be able to spread [items] out some and bring some stuff in that people want us to exhibit,” Cook said.
Besides raising money, Bellman hopes people have fun during the auction.
“I always comment that it’s a great place
to get some Christmas gifts,” Cook added.
