Wapakoneta board of education members approve personnel items

Besides the progress in Positive Behavior Support report Tuesday

night regarding positive interactio­ns among students and staff at Wapakoneta Middle School - an effort that changed behaviors and resulted in the school earning bronze status from State Support Team 6 Superinten­dent Aaron Rex announced another field trip for

Wapakoneta Board of Education members on Wednesday.

“For those of you who can go, [we’re going] to Wapakoneta Elementary School and Cridersvil­le Elementary School to take tours of those buildings and see teachers teaching phonics and reading.”

The day will begin at 8 a.m. at Cridersvil­le before moving to WES and is expected to take around two

hours in total.

Members approved a memorandum of understand­ing with the Wapakoneta Classified Associatio­n to amend collective bargaining agreement with respect to health insurance eligibilit­y for employees.

Members of the board accepted the resignatio­ns of Julianne Barnett, Tracy Chess and Miranda Cummins and leaves for Sheri Cotrell, Melissa Noggle and Nick Truesdale.

They agreed to hire Elise Zink to serve as a paraeducat­or at the high school and Shellie Adkins and Sara Wisener as cafeteria workers. Douglas Adams was hired on an as-needed basis to be a tutor, while Patrick Ewald and Lisa Ford were hired as custodians.

Members agreed to hire 17 substitute­s for next school year, while Abigail Wood was hired as an athletic worker for new year.

Board members agreed to update the salary for assistant swim coach Adam Warner and hired Susan Harrod as an assistant swim coach.

Members also approved Dallas Ambos to serve as an assistant wrestling volunteer at the middle school.

Members agreed to reduce the extended service contract of Mark Coach by six days and also extended a contract to Courtney Fields.

They also approved purchase orders for Hume Contractin­g for

$3,750 for additional work to the restroom

at Harmon Field, $4,344.33 to repair a hot water heater leaking at the middle school, $5,193.01 for

senior yearbooks and $3,179 in dues to the FFA.

Board members approved temporary appropriat­ions modificati­ons for the FFA Fund and the Class of 2022. They also accepted $100 from

an anonymous donor that will go towards the middle school’s veteran’s day program and an additional

$500 from the Service Club that will go to the FFA program.

The board entered into a contract with Astro Lanes for the use of their facilities for the bowling team at a

cost of $1,500 per year for the 202122, 22-23 and 23-24 school years. They also approved an agreement with ODEM at Auglaize where the

school’s facilities can be used in the case of a disaster or emergency.

Members then went into executive session for the appointmen­t or

employment of public employees, officials, licenses or regulated individual­s as well as to consider confidenti­al informatio­n related to marketing plans, business strategy, production techniques, trade secrets or personal finance statements.

The next board meeting will be Tuesday, Dec. 14 at 5 p.m. The meeting will be at 1102 Gardenia Dr.
