Wapakoneta softball crushes Shawnee

- By AJ STREETER

The Redskins hosted Western Buckeye League rival Shawnee

on Friday afternoon. Wapakoneta looked to

keep their unbeaten WBL and get a win

over the Indians, Wapakoneta was able to do just that in an 8-0 beatdown over

Shawnee. Wapakoneta played well in every

aspect only allowing two hits and picking

up 14 of their own in the win.

After the game Redskin manager Bill

Sammons spoke about the team effort, “we’re

starting to get that groove back again, with the weather being nice and starting to feel comfortable

playing the game, I think that was a big process tonight, just

staying loose and focused, if we do that good things are going to happen,” said Sammons.

Rylie Jeanneret pitched the entire seven-inning shutout for the Redskins, she only allowed three Indians

on base with a walk to go along with hits. She was able to sit down 12 on strikes in the win.

At the plate, Wapakoneta hit the ball 14 times, as eight of the

nine players got hits. Five players had multiple hits; Aryka Watt, Emily Vanhorn, Amber Schnippel and Carlie Schroeder all had two hits, Schroeder also hit a double, the only extra-base hit on the night. Lead-off

hitter A Wilson led the team with three

hits. Watt was also the only player with multiple RBIS with two.

Kyra Vermillion and Kaylee Grant picked

up the only Shawnee win in their third loss

in WBL play. Grant would also pitch the

second half of the game for the Indians

after Haylee Wurm was pulled, Wurm allowed seven hits and

six runs, while striking out one. Grant only allowed one run on three hits and struck out five.

With the win, Wapakoneta moves to 8-1

overall and 4-0 in WBL play. Sammons

spoke about how he hopes momentum moves forward, “how do we take that success? I’m hoping we take it and run with it, I think that’s what we’re doing right now, we’re starting to feel confident instead of

being afraid to make a mistake, I think we’re finally feeling confident and starting to feel the flow again, I’m

hoping that continues,” said Sammons.

Wapakoneta will play two road games today as they travel to Minster to play both Minster and Bryan.
