Job Fair matches WHS seniors with potential employers
Wapakoneta students were introduced to 52 potential employers at a job fair Wednesday in the high school gymnasium
Career Counselor Laura Meers organized the event and said they prepped students to attend with lessons on creating resumes and practicing for interviews.
“We had a really great turnout,” Meers said. She hopes to add even more next year.
The entire senior class participated,
Nick Fields, a project manager with Hume Construction, said they were doing anything they can to hire people and were
especially looking for students with carpentry experience.
“We are always trying to find the right people,” Fields said,
adding it has been a challenging time.
Crown representatives saw a steady flow of students with 11 scheduled interviews, as they look to fill 600 to 700 open positions nationwide.
Crown representative Cathy Davis explained the company
offers opportunities for students looking to go straight into the workforce as well as students who want to go to a four-year or two- year college. Crown offers internships and co-ops.
Wapakoneta Senior Caleb Walter said getting a few interviews under his belt helped his nerves.
He interviewed with Randall Bearings, Pratt and American Trim, casting a wide net.
Ethan Parsons was recruiting for Randall Bearings,
“Lima is a really competitive job market,” Parsons said, nothing their company requires blueprint reading and CNC programming
experience but doesn’t necessarily need a college degree.
Nearly every industry was represented including healthcare as well as police, fire departments and the financial sector.
Wapakoneta Senior Abby Vorhees interviewed with several
employers and she was hoping for a job in the education field and
had interviews lined up throughout the day.
