Redskins gets home win over Perry
The Wapakoneta Redskin baseball team picked up a 15th win
of the season over a quality 19-2 Lima Perry team in non-league
play. The Redskins were able to dominate
the Commodores in a 12-0 win on Friday.
Wapakoneta was hot at the plate in a 12-hit performance. The Redskins got off to a fast start, putting up
nine runs in the first. They were also strong
on the mound as Braeden Goulet got the start for the Redskins, going all five innings in the runruled shortened game and only allowing one hit.
The Redskins only allowed two Commodore batters to reach
base, one with a single on the first at-bat of the night and a
dropped third strike, Goulet walked no batters and struck out 12.
Wapakoneta had 12 hits as a team, four players had multiple, Grant Jolly, Zach Rogers, Landon Brandt and Grant Bauer all
had two. Bauer also led the team with two RBIS. The Redskins also had three extrabase hits, Rogers and Bauer each had a triple, and Brandt had a double. They also managed to reach base on
four walks and four Commodore errors.
Perry used three pitchers in the loss, Travis Nanchoff got the start and is credited with the loss, he would allow seven
runs on five hits and
three walks. Hunter
Scott would come in relive with one out remaining in the first,
he would pitch two innings allowing three runs on seven hits, and he would
strike out four. Ryan
Yingst would finish the game for Perry, he allowed no hits and
one walk, and he would also sit down four on strikes.
With postseason play looming, the Redskins now only have one regular-season game left, manager Jason Brandt spoke after the game about
his team’s confidence going into sectionals, “we have been playing with a lot of confidence all week long, it
started Monday with the no-hitter against Coldwater, continued Tuesday, Thursday
and tonight. Our pitcher threw a onehitter in each one of those three games, we were able to run-rule three of the four teams and we only gave up one earned run.”
Brandt would then talk about what he
hopes happens as they prepare for the postseason, “it’s time to start flipping the switch, now it’s playoff-mode, Monday is our last league game,
but we need to use that as a playoff-mode type game because
Bath’s a very good opponent, it’s a chance for us to get second in the WBL, it’s a chance
to end the regular sea
son on a really good note.”
With the win, the Redskins are 15-4-1
and will travel to Bath Monday for a WBL
showdown, one last game before the Redskins face the winner of Galion and another WBL foe, St. Marys. They are set to play Wednesday and the
winner will travel to Wapakoneta Friday for the sectional finals.

seeing them work through the program, Cisco is our captain
and works tirelessly. Adam Hall and Preston Free are both fun
kids to have around the program, we’ll
definitely miss them. Jaydon Wendel
jumped in last year after not playing since he was a little kid, he
started batting .030 and now he’s pushing .300, it was great to see that progress. The program will miss all of them.”
