Trojans advance to sectional final

ANSONIA — Botkins baseball picks up a sectional semi-final win over Ansonia. The Trojans were able to bounce back after dropping the previous three games in a 1-0 outing against the Tigers.

The Trojans fell at Bath Saturday in a 20-1 win for the Wildcats they only had three hits in the loss and allowed 11 while also walking six, the Trojans also had four errors in the 19-run loss.

Botkins was able to right the ship on defense against the Tigers Monday, Carson Motter pitched the entire game for the Trojans. Motter would only allow two hits and sat down 10 Tigers on strikes.

The Trojan offense was able to do just enough to score one run in the win, with Motter and Levi Frey getting the lone hits for the Trojans.

With the win, the Trojans will now travel to face Pleasant Hill Newton. The Indians are 15-5 on the season and will look to end the Trojans’ postseason run. The Trojans will then face Russia for their final regularsea­son game Thursday.

BATH — The Redskin baseball team closed out the regular season with another WBL win with a 14-4 win over Bath. Wapakoneta finishes the regular season 16-4-1 overall and 6-3 in Western Buckeye League games.

The Redskins are currently riding a five-game win streak outscoring opponents 54-5 in the span of a week. They are set to host the winner of St. Marys and Galion in a district championsh­ip.

The Redskins were able to get the win over Bath due to a strong outing at the plate for the Wapakoneta bats as five members of the Redskin baseball team were able to get multiple hits. As a team the Redskins had 17 hits in Monday’s win. Taylor Echols and Austin West each had three hits. Zach Rogers, Braeden Goulet and Grant Jolly each also had two hits. Rogers and Goulet led the way with three RBIS each. Echols and Jolly were the only other Redskins to have multiple RBIS.

Wapakoneta used three pitchers in the win, Grant Jolly would get the start and pitch the first two innings, he would walk one as well as get one strike--

out. Grant Bauer pitched the next four innings, he allowed four hits, four runs and walked one while also striking out six. Taylor Echols would pitch the final inning for the Redskins, he would walk one and get two batters out on strikes.

Bath would also use three pitchers in the game, Maley started the game for the Wildcats, he would last two innings, and he allowed three runs on three hits and a walk. Price would come in for relief, he would only record one out, and he allowed five runs on two hits and a walk. Deppe would pitch the rest of the game, he would not have much success either against the Redskin bats, he would allow six runs on 12 hits and three walks.
