Inmates of the Auglaize County Home were treated to ice cream in large quantity Sunday, when gifts of the frozen delicacy were set
in as gifts from two quarters. The donors were Mrs. H. Collier Smith, wife of the Quick Works
manager at St. Marys, and Chas. Fisher, head of the Fisher Purity Dairy company, this city, three gallons from each donor. The 34 inmates of the
big institution, 8 women and 26 men, Superintendent and Matron Accuntius, and the assistants about the place enjoyed their treat and today extended a vote of thanks to the donors for the substantial refreshment extended them.
75 YEARS AGO, JUNE 8, 1947
The 10th swimming season of the Wapakoneta swimming pool officially opened last Thursday. Throughout the day 170 swimmers inaugurated the new season. Saturday afternoon from one to three will be free day when all children 12 and under will be admitted into the pool free. It was announced by Carl Hutchens, pool manager, that Tom Mckeever, Mickey
Schnell, and Barbara Chesbrough will be the life-guards and that Marilyn Haskins, Joan Berg, and Nancy Conrad will work in the office.

Funeral services for the late Jacob Schragle, 69, have been arranged for Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Heinl Bros. and Sons Funeral
home. Mr. Schragle died at his residence. 304 W. Pear Street. He was a member of the 6th Calvary regiment during the Spanish-american War . He was over 23 years a steward of the Elks club in this city.

It was their idea, even for putting a classified in the WDN: Jane Kerst, Mary Klock, Kim Koenin, Dawn Kiser, and Kathy Werling wanted to do something for the Cancer Benefit,
so they thought up the idea of having a carnival, with the proceeds going to the Cancer Society. The ad read: CARNIVAL—SATURDAY, 802 W. Vine, 1 till 5 pm. Games—prizes—refreshments—proceeds go to Cancer Society. The carnival was held at the home of Jane Kerst. They did a thriving business, what with a fish pond, popcorn, and a dart game. And the Cancer Society is $8.65 to the good. The girls are 11-year-olds.

D. Lynn Moon, local florist, was named president of the Wapakoneta Rotary Club at a
meeting of the members of the board. Thomas Goheen, principal of St. Joseph High School, was named vice president. They will take office July 1. Holdover members of the board
are outgoing president Charlie Brading, and Jim Kent, as well as Moon and Goheen. Newly
elected members are Bob Wilhoff and Ed Ewing. Bob Kuck III was appointed to replace John Connaughton, who is moving to Ada.
Grocery Bob King is a generous man. He gave Eddie Ewing, 212 E. Benton, a tomato plant sometime ago. Nothing wrong with that. But what irks Bob is that Eddie came in the store the other day with a tomato from his plant, and Bob’s still struggling along without
any blooms.

Wapakoneta City Auditor Gail Walter was the recipient of two awards for auditing excellence. Auditor Jim Petro’s office presented Walter with the awards based on “outstanding commitment in financial reporting” based on the city’s 994 and 1995 Comprehensive Annual Financial Reports.
