⬛ A baseball game (pardon the nerve) will be played at Kolter’s park Thursday afternoon between the lawyers and the bankers of Wapakoneta. The scream will be called promptly at 3:30. Fader Moser will captain the bankers and Otto Boesel the lawyers. They promise plenty of sport for all who attend.

⬛ News from Cottonwood—thrashing is still continued. This week will almost wind it up. Clover hulling is in full blast.

⬛ Jim Book drove his Wapak Iron and Metal stock car No. 66 across the finish line for his first feature win at Eldora. Fred Carter

of Wapakoneta sponsored Jim Book, as well as Bob Lane, who ran a strong third until a tie rod broke, causing him to drop out of the race. Race fans from Wapakoneta are looking forward to a few more checkered flags from their cars.

⬛ Thundersto­rms struck Wapakoneta yesterday, pouring .85 inches of rain on the city in 15 minutes and 1.03 inches for the afternoon.

Several streets were blocked by standing water. Lightning is believed to have started three fires and caused parts of the city to be without electric power for as long as 45 minutes. Lightning struck power lines in the alley between Blackhoof and Perry streets, bounded

by Auglaize and Main. A false alarm fire was reported at Koneta Rubber Co. Lightning was

believed to have struck there, Lightning struck the Wayne Rickert home at 303 E Mechanic

Street and started a fire in a TV set. The fire spread through the kitchen and caused an estimated $10,500 in damage. The Ted Parsons home at 301 S. Blackhoof was struck by lightning, causing a fire in a wall behind an electric stove. Damage was estimated at $115.

⬛ Jay Cobb, riding Happy O’day, owned by Dennis Walter, won first place in walking horses, mares. In the open class at the Dayton Horse Show. At the same show Hershel Harris, also won second place in the waling horses,

mares, open. Hershel was the rider of Ebony lady Shamrock, which he owns.

⬛ A combinatio­n of picturesqu­e skies, new and exciting attraction­s, and a diverse mix

of events made for a successful start to this year’s Auglaize County Fair. Paid general attendance Tuesday topped 2300, a 40 percent

increase over second day attendance last year. And that figure doesn’t include those with passes and others admitted free for Kids Day

and Senior Citizens Day. Fair board secretary Fred Piehl believes people are being lured by

several new features, including St. Louis Bungee Jump. He said the thrill ride drew such a large crowd Tuesday “I could barely make my way past.” Other new features include an FFA petting zoo and a self contained M-4 fighter plane simulator. In competitio­ns, Kelly Haehn walked away with the Grand Championsh­ip Buck award in the Junior Fair Rabbit Showmanshi­p, with Theresa Lunz as the reserve winner. Nikki Brandehoff won Grand Champion Market Pan, while Shanw Steinke won Reserve Champion, Market Pen.
