Luke Vonderhaar of Auglaize County Chosen for 2023 D3baseball.com Preseason All-america Team

Luke Vonderhaar (New Bremen/new Bremen High School) of Baldwin Wallace University has been selected as a D3baseball.com Preseason Allamerica­n.

Vonderhaar was an American Baseball Coaches Associatio­n/rawlings All American, D3baseball.com All-american, American Baseball Coaches Associatio­n/rawlings and D3baseball.com All-region first team, Brockport (N.Y) NCAA All-regional Tournament MVP, All-ohio Athletic Conference first team and ALL-OAC Tournament honoree. Off the field, he was the NCAA Baseball Championsh­ips Elite 90 Award winner, College Sports Informatio­n Directors of America Academic All-american second team, COSIDA Academic Alldistric­t Seven and Academic ALL-OAC.

The All-american first basemen set the BW single season records in home runs with 19, runs batted in with 70 and games started/played with 50. Vonderhaar also posted a .340 batting and was third in the OAC with .711 slugging percentage. He recorded 67 hits, 34 extra base hits and 53 runs scored.

In his career, Vonderhaar has appeared in 96 games with a .332 batting average, 24 home runs, 104 RBIS, 116 hits, 49 extra base hits, 13 stolen bases, a .616 slugging percentage and a .415 on base percentage.

Vonderhaar is accompanie­d on the Allamerica team by one other OAC athlete. Senior starting pitcher Trent Valentine of Marietta College joins Vonderhaar on the third team.

The Yellow Jackets open the season on the road with a non-conference doublehead­er in Danville, Ky. as they take on Centre (Ky.) College. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 on the Gary Wright Field inside Fishman Park.
