JANUARY 14, 1923

■ The street lighting equipment for Gibbs Avenue has arrived at last. The work of installing the lights will begin soon and the residents of that section of town can rejoice. These lights were to have been put in shortly after the new system was installed but have been delayed.

The one light missing on South Blackhoof street will also be put up.

■ The H.B. Dingler family, located for several years in the Kolter Building on East Auglaize street in apartments above the Wahrer garage, moved into new quarters in the E.P. Wright building above the new Dixie Restaurant.

■ Edwin Spees, of this city, senior at Wittenberg College, has been named vice president of the Scroll and Quill, an honorary journalist­ic fraternity, recently organized. Mr. Spees is editor in chief of the Torch the college weekly.

„■ A fresh out-burst of winter style weather brought temperatur­es in this city plunging to the near zero mark according to a report from the local weather authority, Jacob Zint, who revealed that the mercury stood at five degrees above zero this morning. The temperatur­e early this afternoon was 13 degrees. Intermitte­nt snow continued today and roads continued hazardous under the heavy fall yesterday. Buses reported on schedule though, local school officials reported.

„■ Clerk of Courts Charles Christler announced today the appointmen­t of Mrs. Maxine Horman as deputy of courts to assist Miss Agnes Clausing in the mobile title department.

■ Lewis Blank, 78, died Tuesday morning in a Cambridge hospital. The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was a native of Union township, born in 1869. He m Caroline Lammers in 1918 and she is the only survivor. The deceased was for 30 years a teacher in rural schools in this area, beginning and ending his teaching career at the Walton school near Uniopolis. He was also at one time substitute rural mail carrier.

■ Kay Wellington advises us that Mrs. Richard Presar has assumed the duties of chairman of volunteers for the eastern Auglaize County Chapter of the American Red Cross. If you would like to donate some time to help your fellow man, call Carol Presar or the Red Cross office.

■ Bonnie Madden, a junior at St. Joseph High School has been chosen as Business

Leader for the Month for January. She received this honor for being an outstandin­g business student and for being active in the St. Joseph FBLA Club, of which she is presently serving as president. This is Bonnie’s second year as a member f the organizati­on. Last year she placed second in the district and second in the state in Typing 1.

■ Edwin Stroh, a director of the Daily News Printing Co. for the past 16 years, submitted his resignatio­n at the annual stockholde­rs’ meeting. President of the board, Dr. Gene Cajacob accepted the resignatio­n with regret. Mr. Stroh will act as a consultant from time to time. Replacing him with be Dr. Stephen Cajacob, son of the president who is I the practice of optometry with his father in Lima.

■ The Moulton Township board of trustees recently elected Pat Schneider to serve as 1998 board president, with Max Place named vice president. Bill Doering will serve as the third member of the board. Mike Benny was appointed zoning inspector. The board also announced it will allow township residents to use the township hall without charge. ■ Clay Township trustees met and elected Don Regula as president, with R. Joe Metzger as vice president. The third member of the board is Gary Schneider. Dennis Thrush is the township zoning inspector.

■ Trustees in Union Township also reorganize­d with J. Dale Miller selected as president and Craig Shaw as vice resident. Gary Stiles is the third member of the board. the township clerk is Mary Joseph, while the township clerk is Michael Ruppert.
