COLUMBUS GROVE - The visiting Waynesfield-goshen boys basketball team lost to Columbus Grove 67-50 in a non-conference contest Tuesday night.

Grove outscored W-G 37-20 over the middle quarters to post the win. The Tigers rallied within eight midway through the final period, but could get no closer.

W-G fell to 5-16 with the defeat. The Bulldogs improved to 6-15.

"Our guys played hard," said Tiger head coach Nate Swaney. "We battled back and had a chance to get it to six with four minutes left. Grove did a nice job of making free throws down the stretch to put it out of reach."

W-G senior guard Jayden Elliott scored 11 of his game-high 29 points in the fourth quarter.

The Tigers lad 15-14 after the first period as Elliott netted eight points. CG pulled ahead 34-25 at the half with a 20-point second quarter.

A 17-10 Grove third period increased the margin to 51-35. W-G rallied in the 16-15 fourth quarter, but came up short.

W-G sank 19 baskets with 17 twopointers and two treys. The Tigers canned 10 of 15 free throws (67 percent).

The Bulldogs canned four triples and 22 deuces. CG converted 11 of 16 foul shots (69 percent), including eight of nine in the fourth quarter. Trenton Barraza led four Grove players in double figures with 17 points.

"Now we turn our focus back to Perry for the first round of tournaments," said Swaney.

W-G takes on Perry (10-11) in the Div. IV sectional semifinals at Coldwater Tuesday, Feb. 21. The winner advances to face second seed New Bremen (14-7) at Coldwater Feb. 24. The Commodores beat W-G 65-56 January 27.
