Donations and Student Achievements Included in Tuesday's School Board Meeting Agenda
The Wapakoneta City School Board of Education held its regular Board meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m. at Wapakoneta High School. Five students in grades eight through 12 were recognized for merit and achievement. Those students include:
~ Ethan Becher, 8th grade, nominated by Colleen Kitzmiller
~ Chelsea Rockwood, 9th grade, nominated by Susanne Geise and Makenzie Speakman
~ Kiara Hower-bruns, 9th grade, nominated by Nikki Barger
~ Jacob Mcdaniel, 11th grade, nominated by Lisa Horman
~ Kaitlynne Kantner, 12th grade, nominated by Cortney Rogers
Later in the agenda, during discussion of financial matters, the following donations were accepted:
~ $2,500 - from Gene Haas Foundation - for Robotics Club;
~ $50 - from Wapak K of C Council #1272 - for Art Club;
~ $51.80 - from Cridersville Church of the Nazarene - for Cridersville Elementary Food Pantry;
~ $500 - from Wapak Service Club - for FFA;
~ $165 - from Frontstream - for wrestling program; ~ $500 - from Summitview Landscape - for Athletics;
~ $5,000 - Anonymous - for Robotics Club;
~ $3,922.20 - from Ernie Hollenbacher - for Contribution towards Hall of Fame Mural;
~ $500 - from VFW - for Outstanding Senior Fees;
~ $220 - Anonymous - for outstanding student lunch account balances
In other business, the Board voted for construction of a frisbee golf course on WCS property at a cost of $1 for use of premises; the Board agreed to continue Career-technical Education Program at WHS for the 2023-24 school year; and the Board approved a new 78-passenger bus. The board also acknowledged resignations and approved employment of various substitutes and supplemental contracts, pending satisfactory criminal record checks. Tutor pay rate and professional development stipends were approved. The Board also approved of a public notice to be published in the Wapakoneta Daily News regarding the employment of bus driver Eric Oen.
