OTTAWA – The visiting Wapakoneta boys soccer team dominated Ottawa-glandorf in a 6-2 Western Buckeye League win Thursday evening.

Redskins Kyle Beach and Austin Bump each netted two goals and passed out an assist apiece to lead the victors.

The Redskins improve to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in WBL play after the decisive win. O-G fell to 0-3-1 overall and 0-2 in the WBL with the defeat.

“We matched O-G’S intensity and physicality,” said Redskin head coach Scott Brinkman. “Getting up 2-0 early was important and we relaxed a bit.”

Beach started the scoring 4:12 into the fray. He took a Titan defender one on one and found the net for a 1-0 lead.

At the 33:30 mark, Aidan Gallespie’s initial shot was deflected by the O-G keeper, but Gallespie scored on a putback of his own rebound to provide a 2-0 lead.

Just 25 seconds later, the Titan Gavin Morman scored to cut their deficit to 2-1 and the score remained that way to intermission.

“They fought back and got the goal to make it 2-1,” said Brinkman. “At halftime we talked about effort, trust, and playing for each other, and in the second half we did that.”

A mere 25 seconds into the second half, Bump scored on an assist from Beach to build the lead to 3-1. Bump then fed Josh Tenaglia for a goal with 31:40 left in the game to extend the Redskin margin to 4-1.

Titan Isaac Mackey hit the top left corner of the net with 22:27 to go in the match to bring O-G within 4-2. Bump tallied his second goal just 17 seconds later to restore the threegoal lead.

Beach put the game well out of reach by netting a breakaway goal with 13:17 remaining.

“We were able to move the ball and find some space,” summed up Brinkman. “Fortunately, we were able to capitalize on our chances.”

Tenaglia, Beach, Bump and Brantsyn Clausing each doled out one assist. Wapak out-shot O-G, 24-10.

Wapak plays at non-league foe Maumee Valley Country Day Saturday at 1 p.m.
