Niekamp Wins WBL Championsh­ip, Tigers Compete in League Finale

LIMA- The Wapakoneta boys golf team competed in the Western Buckeye League Boys Golf Championsh­ips at the Oaks Golf Club on Thursday.

Shawnee won the tournament with 316 strokes and won the league with a perfect 9-0 record. Bath followed with 328 strokes and a 5-4 league record. Van Wert placed third in the tournament with 331 strokes and forth in the league with a 5-4 record. Wapakoneta finished forth in the tournament with 333 strokes and fifth in the league with a 5-4 record, while Ottawa Glandorf secured fifth place in the tournament with 337 strokes and third in the league with a 8-1 record.

Individual­ly, Wapakoneta’s Zac Niekamp won the tournament with 71 strokes and was named first team all-league. Shawnee’s Seth Greishop placed second in the tournament with 76 strokes and is the 2023 WBL Player of The Year with the most WBL points. Bath’s Braden Binkley secured third place with 77 strokes and also received all-league honors.

After Niekamp, the Redskins were led by Logan Lee who shot an 84 and was named first team all-league. Peyton Young received honorable mention with 89 strokes, while Preston Hinkle (89), Kayden Cottrell (91), and Holden Bowersock (107) followed.

The Redskins (9-5) are set to host Delphops Jefferson on Monday in a non-league match at Wapakoneta Country Club.

WAYNESFIEL­DON Thursday, the Waynesfiel­d Goshen boys golf team competed in the Northwest Central Conference Boys Golf Championsh­ip at their very own Prairie View Golf Club.

North Baltimore won the NWCC title and placed second in the tournament with 369 strokes. Ridgedale won the tournament with 354 strokes and finished second in the NWCC.

Waynesfiel­d Goshen came in third in the NWCC and placed fourth in the tournament with 396. Hardin Northern took fourth place in the league and placed third in the tournament with 388 strokes. Eglin rounded out the five teams with 502 strokes.

Individual­ly, Ridgemont’s Devan Ramsey won the tournament with a 82 stroke performanc­e. Hardin Northern’s Preston Grappy placed second with 83 strokes, while North Baltimore’s Owen Clark and Cooper Clark tied for third with 87 strokes.

Waynesfiel­d Goshen was led by Rocky Cummings and Jace Kuaffman with 95 strokes each. Landon Dewitt and Dale Cummings each ended their regular season with 103 strokes, while Caleb Ludwig (107) and Ethan Fraley (120) rounded out the Tigers six golfers.

Waynesfiel­d Goshen ended their regular season with a 5-11-1 record and will begin their tournament play with sectionals on Thursday at Colonial Golfers Club.
