MIDDLE SCHOOL,

-

Brody Bishop was going for the 92 pound title after an 11-0 major decision, a pin at 1:10, and a 19-3 technical fall, but was pinned in his last match of the day, while 122 pounder Darrian Stinebrunner recored a pin (3:31), a 9-3 decision, and another pin (2:50) before being pinned at the 1:44 mark of the championship.

A third place finish was turned in by Cooper

Cecil (104), and Gauge Vaughn (128) placed fourth, going 4-2, but both of his two losses could have gone either way. In his second match he fell 4-2 in overtime and in his match for third place he dropped a tough 3-2 decision.

Lane Fisher (142) and Jayden Williams (205) both finished the tournament with 3-2 records, good enough for fifth place, and Everett Cernan (150) was 3-3 and finished sixth.

Two other grapplers were within one match of a guaranteed sixth place finish or better.

Riley Becker (110) and Cayson Wisener (116) were both 2-2 on the day, but a win instead of their second loss a round earlier would have advanced them into a shot at fifth place.

Hans Sammetinger won one of his three matches, but his two losses were both close matches, losing 5-2 and 3-1, while Garrett Rose (86) and Hunter Byrd (172) lost both of their matches.

“”We certainly had some bright spots,” said head coach Eric Beach, “but top to bottom we didn’t wrestle as well as we’d have liked to have to. The competition was very tough, and as a coaching staff we need to do a better job of having our kids ready to toe the line.”

The middle schoolers will be in action again on Thursday when they will be taking on Bath on the home mats in the Wapak gym and going for their 8th Western Buckeye League win against no losses.
