TIGER GIRLS,

-

after the victory.

“They made 11 three’s, and we played with just six girls due to flu and injuries,” said W-G head coach Jocelyn Hennon. “New Knoxville shot it really well.

“When we made two’s, they answered by hitting three’s,” she continued. “It was the story of our season – we were short-handed, and the other team shot the lights out from the perimeter.”

NK’S previous high for made three-pointers in a game this season was three, Hennon reported. Tiger freshman guard Tarynn Vorhes was out sick, as was fellow starter Makenna Shaw.

W-G connected on a dozen twopointers, and canned four trifectas. The Tiger girls converted eight of nine shots (89 percent) at the charity stripe.

The Ranger girls knocked down 13 deuces and sank 11 shots from beyond the arc. NK also converted six of nine from the foul line (67 percent).

Tiger seniors Gracy Zechman and Cassidy Bigelow were recognized before their final home game. Zechman scored a careerhigh seven points.

“Both seniors played really well in their last home game, and gave 100 percent effort as always,” said Hennon.

Tiger junior post Raegan Hutchison tallied nine points. “They did a good job doubling down on Raegan, they packed the defense in,” Hennon noted.

Avery Albers led the Rangers with 21 points and four triples. Addi Albers and Lauren Wingler added to the balanced NK attack with 10 markers apiece. Keianna Wellman contributed nine markers.

The Tigers (4-2 NWCC) play at second-place league foe Ridgedale (9-8, 6-1 NWCC) Thursday, Feb. 8 in a do or die contest.

“We have to be ready to go, they have a really solid freshman class,” said Hennon. “It will be a battle. We have to win and get help to have a chance to share the league title with Perry, Ridgedale and Cory-rawson.” Ridgedale fell from first to second place in the NWCC after losing 51-44 at Cory-rawson last Thursday. Fourthplace W-G is two full games behind first-place Perry (6-0 NWCC), and trails the Rockets by 1.5 games in the league standings.

C-R (6-13) jumped to third place in the league at 5-2 after upsetting Ridgedale.
