FEBRUARY 8, 1924

■ Judge Brodbeck, directed Theo Tangeman, guardian of Mrs. Lena Van Anda, to sell the real estate of his ward, located on West Benton street. Frank Zofkie, William Fisher, and Emil Moser were named as appraisers. Mrs. Van Anda’s son, Ed Van Anda, former local baseball player, filed his consent to the sale. He now resides in Fort Wayne.

■ Mrs. P.E. Sheets, of Cleveland, victim of an alleged attack by her husband last Monday night in a downtown alley, is recovering from her injuries, according to her local physician. She is still confirmed to her room at the Central Hotel here, where she was taken by Night Patrolman Metzger at the time of Mr. Sheets’ arrest. The latter denied his alleged relationsh­ip to the woman, according to the police.

■ Equipment of the J.H. Meyer office of this city was moved to Lima, where Mr. Meyer, recently appointed county sanitary engineer of Allen county, will maintain an office. Sufficient equipment was left at the local office for Mr. Meyer to continue his city work at Wapakoneta. Miss Lela Esser, stenograph­er in Mr. Meyer’s office, and Carl Roemer, who has been employed as a draughtsma­n in the office, will accompany Mr. Meyer to Lima.

■ Timely work of the city fire department saved the F.A. Lehman residence, 103 West Benton street, from destructio­n or severe damage yesterday forenoon. The blaze, which started in a piece of burlap hanging over an opening too near the furnace stove pipe was communicat­ed to a partition, passing upwards between walls to the second floor. Firemen found it necessary to break several holes through the walls to put out the blaze. Damage will be slight, firemen said.

■ Friday and Saturday will be Dollar Days in Wapakoneta. By reading the ads in the Daily News you’ll discover that there are many bargains for every member of the family. Merchants point out that it was impossible for them to list all their bargains. Wapakoneta merchants are hoping for fair weather for the two days. Store owners point out that sufficient clerks have been obtained to handle customers during the two days.

■ The Parent-teachers Assn. PRESENTS New Knoxville Nifties of 1949, a merry minstrel musical revue built for laugh purposes only. A profession­al show with local people. New Knoxville High School Auditorium Monday and Tuesday, 8 pm. Children through High School, 25 cents. Adults, 50 cents

■ Junior Service League met February 4 at the home of Mrs. Ted Ruck. Vice president Mrs. Michael Moser called the meeting to order. Mrs. Ted Ruck called the roll and the minutes were read and approved. Mrs. Charles Brading gave the treasurer’s report. Fashion show chairman Mrs. Ron Miller reported on entertainm­ent for the May 2 show and asked for suggestion­s for a theme. Mel Gallimore, Wapak Studio, then presented an informativ­e program on decoupage. Mrs. Marsha Henderson received a decoupage kit. The next meeting will be March 4 at the home of Mrs. John Elshire.

■ The initiation of 15 new members took place last night at the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks 1170. The present Exalted Ruler, Roy Pitchford, turned the meeting over to George Ruck, exalted ruler of the past exalted rulers. The Elk of the Year award was presented to S.W. Mccauley. Those initiated were: James Samples, Phillip Opperman, Albert Fischer, Thomas Peterman, Donald Stahler, E. Michael Hall. John Nemec, John Elshire, Dale Carlson, Robert Kimble, John Schlegel, Bruce Thuman, Charles Kantner, Bert Presar, and Paul Harris.

■ The following men responded to the call for help last Sunday in the remodeling of the old Rec. These and many others have donated their time and talents for the youth of the community. But more help is needed and anyone willing to lend a hand is urged to come down. Sunday’s helpers included: Rickie Ballweg, Mick Fisher, Wayne Mccauley, Larry Brown, Dan Havens, Myron Fisher, Merle Fisher, Roy Weber, Daryl Ballweg, Jim Emrick, Mark Coomer, Steve Oen, and Terry Kah.
