Lincoln Wolves Feature Several Players Earning Football Honors
LINCOLN — The Lincoln football team, 7-4, featured several players with post-season honors, including all-state, allconference, and NWA Media small schools recognition.
For the second straight year, quarterback Cheyenne Vaughn has attained all-state status. Six Wolves made the all-conference team, four on offense and two for defensive play.
Vaughn was tabbed allconference at quarterback, along with Tyler Cummings, runningback; Julian Ortiz, free safety; Andres Avenllaneda, defensive line; Micheal Swayne, wide receiver; and Sergio Morales, wide receiver.
Five additional Wolves received votes and were listed as all- conference honorable-mention: Dustin Hanson, offensive line; Austin Lewallen, offensive line; Kyle Hamby, linebacker; Colton Barnum, linebacker; and Timmy Alexander, linebacker.
“I am very proud of these guys for their accomplishments and hard work this year,” Harris said.
According to Harris, Vaughn is a gifted athlete, who’s leadership and work ethic improved tremendously this season. Vaughn was listed as quarterback for small schools on the NWA Media team.
“His arm strength is naturally one of his main strengths,” Harris said, noting Vaughn made better decisions with the ball and became more of a dual threat as a runner this year which made it harder to defend the Wolves’ offense.
Harris said toughness may be the best word to describe the running style of Cummings.
“He is hard to tackle because he is always spinning or rolling off a tackle and driving his legs,” Harris said.
Harris said Cummings took many hard shots this year and continued to get up and give everything he had.
“Tyler has tremendous love for football and it shows in the way he plays the game,” Harris said.
Harris called Ortiz a good senior leader and “the quarterback” of Lincoln’s defense. Ortiz was also named to the small schools defensive team by NWA Media.
“He is a head hunter, who would rather hit you than go for the interception,” Harris.
Harris described Avenllaneda as another good senior leader, who is tough to block.
“He has a tremendous motor on the defensive line and is always chasing the ball,” Harris said.
Harris called Michael Swayne “elusive,” saying he is hard to tackle in space, and leads the team in receiving yards and catches.
“I’m very proud of his senior season,” Harris said.
Harris said Sergio Morales was second on the team in receiving yards and catches.
“Morales had the knack for the big play this year,” Harris said, describing him as a quiet leader who allows his actions on the field to speak for him. Harris said Morales also has great hands.
Harris said Dustin Hanson is the strongest kid on the team.
“Dustin developed into a very good offensive-lineman for us this year,” Harris said.
