Monday Was Holiday For Some Schools

-

This day, Monday, is a holiday for banks and some schools, so maybe you are enjoying your day at home.

This holiday, as you well know, is honoring Dr. Martin L. King for all of his contributions to our society.

Have you seen the picture of the beautiful statue of him that has been erected in Washington, D.C.? It is very lifelike.

The Christmas holiday is over for college students as classes begin this week.

It also meant that Holli Whittaker returned to her position as athletic trainer and teacher at the university in Conway. Her mother, Linda, told me they led a very quiet life over Christmas enjoying each other’s company.

The Watkins family is hoping that test results come back with a positive solution for daughter Kristi Nelson. She slipped and fell recently on a wet floor in a business in West Fork, damaging her back and leg. She has been able to work some but under pain and duress. You are in our prayers, Kristi.

Helen Hutchens

was hostess for the first meeting of 2012 of the Viney Grove Extension Homemakers Club last Tuesday with nine ladies present.

Following a short business meeting, Karen Roling demonstrated the art of French knitting. She showed samples using yarn, floss and narrow ribbon. Very pretty work and relatively easy.

Hostess gifts were won by Mildred L. Carnahan and Virginia Vafakos. Lunch was delicious as usual.

An unusual sight seen recently by a Viney Grove resident was groups of five and six does meandering across the fields, coming out of the trees. It was very interesting as you don’t usually see that many deer at one time.

Have a good week and stay well.
