LINCOLN — Becky Carter, clerk/treasurer, presided over the Lincoln City Council meeting on May 14 due to the absence of Mayor Rob Hulse.

Chuck Wood, city manager, announced the sidewalk on School Street was three-quarters done, but problems had come up on the next portion that was scheduled for County Avenue.

“It will be difficult,” Wood said. “We’re just starting to realize the obstacles.”

Wood said space was one of the issues, adding the sidewalk the city was looking at the west side as a possible alternative to the east side of the street.

Wood also told the council benches were in for South Park and would be placed in shaded areas when the sidewalk was completed.

Council member Doug Hutchens said the Vision 2025 board had met a couple of times to discuss what the city can capitalize on to enhance growth in the area.

“We were looking at the opportunities, strengths and weaknesses,” Hutchens said.

John Anthony, Vision 2025 board member, who attended the council

meeting was asked his opinion of the board and visions for the future.

“I’m very encouraged and optimistic,” Anthony said. “It’s starting to pull together.”

On a separate matter, Hutchens reported April’s sales tax distribution came to $20,085.62 adding to the city’s capital improvement fund and bringing it to $523,848.

“We’re having steady sustained business,” Hutchens said about the sales tax revenue.

The council cast a unanimous vote for a step increase for city employee Larry Luond, bringing his salary to $29,769 per year.

All members were present except for Don Mcdonald.

The next Lincoln City Council meeting will be June 11 at 7 p.m. at city hall.
