Board Honors Holman
Superintendent To Retire Next Month
LINCOLN — Dr. Frank Holman, who will be retiring next month as superintendent, switched chairs with Clay Hendrix, the next superintendent, at Monday’s Lincoln School Board meeting.
Hendrix announced special
recognitions and gave the superintendent’s report.
Holman announced his retirement in December effective in June. Hendrix, assistant superintendent, was immediately approved by the board to fill the position at Lincoln Public Schools.
The meeting opened with recognitions by the board for Holman, the 2012 Lincoln High School baseball team and the administrative central office staff.
Board member Kendra Moore presented Holman with a special recognition plaque from the board.
“We present this to you in gratitude for your 21 years in education,” Moore said, adding Holman had helped the Lincoln schools advance educationally and his innovative work was appreciated.
Member Earl Hunton said he remembered when Holman came to the district.
“He’s done a lot ... he’s helped bring to the district what we’re all proud of,” Hunton said. “We’re now known as one of the best districts in the state.”
“We cannot do anything without you, the board,” Holman told board members. “We have outstanding administrators, teachers and school board.” He assured those attending the meeting that he “was not going anywhere and will continue to support the district.”
Hendrix told Holman he appreciated the support he had given him, as well as other school officials.
“We appreciate that,” Hendrix said.
Attention was turned to the Lincoln baseball team who had taken up a number of seats in the board room.
“It was your excellence in athletics we’re recognizing,” Hendrix told the team. “This is the best year in athletics since I’ve been here. We’re glad you made it to state [playoffs]. We’re proud of the coaches.”
“Thank you. It’s been a great year,” said head coach Brad Harris. Justin Bounds, assistant coach, was included in the recognition of the team and coaches.
“You guys have set a good example for the rest of the school,” said board secretary Jim Ayers.
Moore and Hunton added their appreciation to the team.
The central office staff at the administrative offices of the school district was next to be recognized.
Hendrix read a portion of a letter the district had received from the Arkansas Legislative Joint Auditing Committee. It was signed by Senate Co-chairman Bill Pritchard and House Cochairman Tim Summers.
“The committee appreciates the conscientious efforts of your personnel in achieving substantial compliance with Arkansas fiscal and financial laws ...,” the letter stated.
“These ladies and Mr. [ James] Gregory work hard,” Hendrix said, adding it is unusual for a small school district to receive a commendation like this one from the auditors.
The central administrative office staff included Priscilla Bellamy, Tammie Ballou, Blendia Curtis, Michelle Flickinger and James Gregory.
