DAVIS: Cardinals Going To Move Junior High Coach Matt Hahan Up to Davis’ Spot

-

Lightner credits the coaching of Davis with helping the Cardinals a lot on the defensive end.

“He was always giving us little hints on like where to be to help on that guard they had that we held to 12 that day,” Lightner said, adding, “It was very good to have him there because he does know everything there is to know.”

Davis remembers the Bruins had another really good post player and said the Cardinals were lucky enough to get him in foul trouble.

“We took some charges on him, got him in foul trouble so he didn’t get a lot of playing time that game either,” Davis said.

Davis said the Bruins played a zone similar to what the Cardinals ran and the team was able to take advantage and lead by double digits.

“We pretty well knew how to attack it and the team did a good job of distributing the ball and passing the ball. Chase had a lot of open shots and he hit seven threes against them,” Davis said.

“Coach Davis was always there to help us in the timeouts,” Lightner said, adding, “He always knew a little bit of things to say for adjustments. He helped us a lot that day.”

“There’s not been a quarter or halftime that I haven’t went to Ronnie Davis and he’s had it broke down and he knows exactly what’s happened and what changes need to take place,” Thompson said.

Thompson said the Cardinals are going to move junior high coach Matt Mahan, up to Davis’ spot and expects Mahan will do fine, but Davis will be missed.

“There’s no way you can replace a coach who’s meant so much to so many people as what Ronnie Davis has,” Thompson said.

“Not only was Ronnie mentor to me, he was almost like a father to me at times, and most of all, he’s one of my best friends,” Thompson said.

Thompson said when people think of Farmington athletics, there’s really three people that stand out throughout the last 40 years, including former football coach, Allen Holland, and former head girls basketball coach turned athletic director, Brad Blew.

“Ronnie Davis is right there with them,” Thompson said.
