Two Youth Football Camps Set

- Staff Report Staff Report

PRAIRIE GROVE — Dennis Kruse, manager for Prairie Grove Lake, said the lake had a nice weekend except for the rain which was needed.

According to Kruse, several limits of bluegill, redear and crappie were brought in on jigs and crickets with bass being caught on spinner baits and jerk baits. Kruse suggested fishermen try cut set and worms for catfish about six to eight feet deep.

The lake is open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and is open every weekend throughout the summer. Fees are $2 for adults, $1 for senior citizens (age 60 and older) while kids under 16 fish free. Gas-powered boats are not allowed because the lake serves as water source for the city of Prairie Grove, but canoes, kayaks and boats with electric motors can be used on the lake with a $3 launching fee.

To get to Prairie Grove Lake, from Buchanan Street turn south onto Mock Street and continue past Rieff Park and nursing home for about two miles. Take County Road 259, the first blacktop road on the right, and follow it for about one mile, then turn left at the home-made Prairie Grove Lake sign. Follow the steep, gravel road up the hill to the entrance to the lake area. PRAIRIE GROVE — The Prairie Grove Tigers will host two youth football camps in early June.

The camp for grades 1 to 3 will be held from 8 to 10 am. June 11-13, while the camp for grades 4 to 7 will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 11-14. Both camps will be conducted at Tiger Stadium in Prairie Grove.

Elder is the defensive line coach and offensive coordinator for the Tiger varsity as well as head coach for the junior high team. Abshier has been the Tigers’ head varsity coach since 1994. According to the camp promotional brochure, both coaches have a teaching knowledge of the game.

“Our camp consists of fun, action-filled combination of football fundamentals, hard work and self esteem builders,” Elder said. “Every child will receive personal instruction, positive encouragement and a sense of belonging from our coaches.”

All campers must be covered by their family’s medical insurance policy.
