Lincoln Riding Club Promotes Horsemanship

- Staff Report

LINCOLN — According to its bylaws, the Lincoln Riding Club has been established to foster and advance horsemanship, sportsmanship and good fellowship in Lincoln and vicinity.

The bylaws allow membership of any person or persons interested in horses and the welfare and progress of Lincoln and vicinity.

Annual dues are $20 for a family or $15 for an individual. According to the bylaws, current memberships run from the first Tuesday of December 2011 to the first Tuesday of December 2012.

The bylaws also empower the club to bestow honorary membership on individuals whose distinction in public affairs would justify such an honor. The club may also confer lifetime membership on individuals, whose distinction in the club's history would merit the accolade. Both honors require a two- thirds vote of club membership and the person receiving such honors carries all privileges of the club.

The club is governed by a board of directors which includes Jimmy Jetton, president; Jeff Winningham, vice president; Sherry Smith, secretary; Morgan Hunt, treasurer; Carol Jetton, reporter; Misty McCarty; Mike Madewell; Jackie Reed; Kyle Scott; Ashley Thomas and Jeremy Hunt. Two new board members are elected annually along with two junior board members. Junior board members must be between the ages of 13 and 18. Current junior board members are Kylie Scott and Josh Jetton.

The bylaws specify all members of the club in good standing, who have attended 25 percent of club meetings throughout the year and have worked any club function, are eligible to elective membership on the board of directors.

The club board of directors meets once a month with all actions taken reported to the club membership at the next regular meeting of the club. The club meets monthly. The June meeting was held on May 29 to allow planning for the Lincoln Rodeo, which the club sponsors.
