Prairie Grove Lake Fishing Report

- Staff Report

PRAIRIE GROVE — Dennis Kruse, manager for Prairie Grove Lake, said hot weather limited the number of people fishing last weekend.

“There were few fishermen out this past weekend, but the ones who did come caught some fish,” Kruse said.

According to Kruse, bass were hitting top water early in the morning and bluegill were hitting crickets 6 to 8 feet deep.

Kruse said lake hours are changing due to the hot weather. The new lake hours are from 6 a.m. to noon or just shortly after, whenever the last fisherman leaves Saturday and Sunday. The lake is open every weekend throughout the summer. Fees are $2 for adults, $1 for senior citizens (age 60 and older) while kids 15 and younger fish free.

Canoes, kayaks and boats with electric motors can be used on the lake with a $3 launching fee, but gaspowered boats are not allowed because the lake serves as a water source for the city of Prairie Grove.

Prairie Grove Lake can be accessed via a route that begins from Buchanan Street, then turning south onto Mock Street and continuing past Rieff Park and nursing home for about two miles. Then follow County Road 259, the first blacktop road on the right, for about one mile, then taking a left at the homemade Prairie Grove Lake sign and following the steep, gravel road up the hill to the entrance to the lake area.
