Battle Return To Lincoln Saturday
LINCOLN — The NWA Battle returns to the Lincoln High School field for their second home game of the season Saturday against the Kansas City Panthers.
The Battle, a minor league football franchise, lost 40- 6 on June 23 to the Sugar Creek Shockers. Battle general manager Greg Squirrel confirmed team reports that Marquis Eubanks, return specialist, injured a knee in the game and is out for the season.
The franchise is a member of the Alliance Football League, now in its second year. Squirrell said the league has grown to 36 teams spread out across the United States this year.
“It was a tough game,” Squirrell said, adding, “We started out good. I don’t know what happened. They lost focus or something.”
Squirrell said the team expects to play 10 to 12 games this season with the league championship sched- uled for Sept. 26 at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock.
Stacey Rubin is the head coach for the Battle and former Razorback, Lucas Jackson, is the offensive coordinator, while Matt Gargill is the defensive coordinator. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m.
Prior to the game, the Arkansas Lady Rampage, from the Women’s Spring Football League, will play their last regular season game and football fans can watch back-to-back gridiron contests beginning at 6 p.m.
