Farmington Police Cars To Return To ‘Vintage Look’

Eventually All Will Have Classic Look With ‘Modern Twist’

FARMINGTON — The vintage rage in fashion today is even finding a home at the Farmington Police Department.

The department is returning to the old black and white classic look but “with a modern twist,” said Chief Brian Hubbard.

The newest police unit is painted black and white but has a new decal package designed by Hubbard. The 2012 Dodge Charger was purchased with a grant for about $24,000 and will be driven by Officer Geoff Kimball.

The department is waiting for a second Dodge Charger that was purchased as part of the 2012 budget. It also will be black and white and eventually, all of Farmington's police cars will have the same look. Officer James Bertorello has dibs on the next car to come in.

Capt. Michael Thompson said the officers just wanted to return to a traditional look.

The department looked at the costs involved and determined the price would not go up to change the color of the vehicles and implement a new striping logo.

“I like it a lot,” Thompson said. “Every cop wants a black and white car.”

The captain drives the department's only Chevro- let Tahoe and said he enjoys the power and space in that vehicle but pointed out the Charger is a proven vehicle when it comes to law enforcement. The department is still testing the Tahoe.

The Farmington Police Department has 10 officers, including the chief, and 10 vehicles, with one back-up vehicle.
