Ministry To Provide Commodities For Seniors
PRAIRIE GROVE — His Table Ministries, a food and clothing pantry in Fayetteville, will provide food commodities once a month for senior adults at the Prairie Grove Senior Center.
Seniors must be 60 or older and meet certain requirements as established by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for food commodities. Application forms are available at the senior center.
Center Director Linda Willkie said the commodities will help seniors in the area.
“We know there’s a need out there,” Willkie said. “When you’re on a fixed income, those dollars don’t stretch as far as they used to.”
She said a lot of senior adults grew up as farmers and did not pay into the Social Security system.
“They were just as much a part of the community and now we need to give back,” Willkie added.
The food commodities will be available the third Friday of every month at the Prairie Grove Senior Center. The first distribution date will be 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 21.
Monte Scott, managing director for His Table Ministries, said the nonprofit organization provides food and clothing to meet the needs of many different people, including veterans, families, homeless and senior adults.
The Fayetteville pantry is located in the activity center at First Assembly of God, 550 E. 15th St., but is open to anyone, not just those affili- ated with an Assembly of God Church. The pantry is open 2:30-6 p.m. Mondays. The only requirements are a photo identification and a piece of mail verifying residency.
Scott said the pantry’s service area is south Washington County and includes Prairie Grove, Lincoln and Morrow. It does not include areas north of Fayetteville.
His Table Ministries also is involved in other areas, Scott said. The ministry supports mission work, prison ministries and the NWA Hope Center for the homeless.
The pantry is staffed by volunteers and he said additional volunteers are welcome. In addition, people can donate clothing and food to the pantry.
