Lewis Brothers Will Face One Another In Rivalry

- By Mark Humphrey

LINCOLN — With the addition of Lincoln to the 4A1 Conference, rejoining U.S. 62 rivals, Farmington and Prairie Grove in football competition, comes another wrinkle.

The games will have an impact on conference standings and up the intensity for football fans of competing schools linked by close proximity. Added to the nostalgia is the fact that Prairie Grove is home to a Civil War Battlefield when brother fought against brother.

In the last week of the football season, a less serious confrontation will occur on the football field when Farmington travels to Lincoln on Nov. 2. Brother will face brother with sopho- more Morgan Lewis, suiting up for the Cardinals, against older brother, Austin Lewis, a 2008 Farmington graduate, who has joined the staff of the Lincoln Wolves as a student assistant.

Lewis is single and the son of Charles and Amy Lewis, of Farmington. In joining the Lincoln staff, this is Lewis’ first coaching job and the last remaining requirement before he completes a degree from Southern Arkansas. After the 2012 high school football season, Lewis will graduate in December with a Physical Education major.

Morgan has beefed up during the offseason from

Lewis 185 pounds to 210, and Austin said it’s all muscle. Morgan said he achieved the weight gain by coming to work out every day, not messing around and by eating.

“He’s packed on the muscle, it’s pretty much muscle. He loves football,” Lewis said of his younger brother.

“It’s going to be interesting, especially since my brother plays for them as well,” Lewis said. “My parents will probably root for Morgan, but it’s all right.”

Morgan Lewis said his big brother has been an inspiration and thinks he will make a good coach, yet he is also anticipating the U.S. 62 showdown.

“I’m looking forward to it a lot,” Morgan said. “It’s going to be fun.”

Lewis is looking forward to the experience and has faith in the Lincoln staff under head coach Brad Harris.

“These coaches know what they are doing,” Lewis said. “Hopefully, I can learn a lot and give a little advice here and there.”

Lewis thinks his familiarity with the 4A-1 may help a little bit, with him having played in the conference, but again referred to confidence in the Lincoln staff.

“These coaches have everything under control. It’s going to be a great team,” Lewis said.
