FARMINGTON — Ten players from the Cardinal senior high football team have been named to the 2012 4A-1 AllConference team.

Farmington finished 4- 3 in league play and 7- 3 overall in the regular season on their way to a 7- 4 season that ended in the state playoffs with a last-minute, 46-40, loss at Newport.

Spencer Boudrey

Senior runningback Spencer Boudrey (5-8, 178 pounds) received All-State recognition. Boudrey carried the football 183 times and gained 1,497 yards with an additional 536 yards gained on 23 pass receptions. Boudrey scored 12 rushing touchdowns and 7 on catches.

“Spencer is a guy we’re really going to miss. He can take a bad call and make you look good,” said Farmington head football coach, Mike Adams.

Also recognized were: Brennan Warren, 6- 2, 220 pound, senior defensive end; Matt Brackett, 6-2, 160 pound, senior wide receiver; Zach Nickell, 6-2, 215 pound, senior offensive lineman; John Larabee, 5-8, 140 pound, junior safety; and Keaton Austin, 5-10, 140 pound, sophomore quarterback.

Receiving All- Conference honorable mention recognition were: Morgan Lewis, 6- 3, 220 pound, sophomore offensive lineman; Jeremy Alexander, 6-3, 280 pound junior offensive lineman; Michael Ryan, 6-2, 250 pound junior offensive lineman; and Michael Ingram, 6-1, 165 pound, sophomore wide receiver.

Matt Brackett

Brackett played receiver and saw spot duty as an option quarterback. Brackett caught 39 passes for 556 yards with 6 touchdowns. He ran the football 5 times for 82 yards and 1 touchdown. Adams called Brackett a big play guy.

“If we’re going to take a shot deep, he’s the guy we’re going to throw to. He’s just got that innate ability to make something happen,” Adams said.

Brennan Warren

Among the Cardinals recognized as All-Conference are: Brennan Warren, 6-2, 220 pound, senior defensive end. Warren recorded 40 tackles with 12 assists and 6 tackles for losses plus 5.5 sacks.

Adams called Warren “coachable” and said he was a team leader.

“He was one of those guys that really listened and did what you told him.”

Farmington defensive coordinator, Jay Harper, said Warren transferred two years ago from Pottsville and the Cardinals originally had him playing on the interior of the line but moved him to defensive end where he excelled.

“His motor never stops. I never had to worry about him cause I knew he was always going to control the strong side,” Harper said.

Zach Nickell

Adams said Nickell was the smartest guy on the team and the leader of the offensive line keeping the unit functioning efficiently.

“Assignment-wise, he was always going to be on the right guy, always going to do the right thing,” Adams said.

John Larabee

Larabee was the Cardinals’ leading tackler on defense.

“He’s a guy, who is not the greatest athlete but he’s always in the right position,” Adams said. “He got everybody else on our defense in the right position which was huge for our success.”

Keaton Austin

According to Adams, Austin improved more than any other player during the course of the year.

In his first game at the helm as a starting sophomore varsity quarterback, Austin was 5- of-13 passing with 3 interceptions and had a fumble, which resulted in a touchdown by the opponent; yet by the end of the season he was peaking and posted 23 completions in 27 attempts with 327 yards and 3 touchdowns in a game.

“As he got more confidence, he really improved,” Adams said. “I just expect him to get better and better as he gains more confidence and gains more experience.”

Morgan Lewis

Lewis earned the starting center position as a sophomore, allowing the Cardinals to move Jeremy Alexander to guard. Lewis checked in at 5-foot-10, 200 pounds, as a freshman but grew and bulked up to 6-foot, 230 pounds as a sophomore.

“He’s one of those dedicated weightroom guys. That helped him a lot,” Adams said.

Jeremy Alexander

Adams said a move from center to guard helped Alexander this past season, noting most teams the Cardinals play are going to have a defender right on top of him. The move enabled Alexander to use his size and Adams said he did so effectively.

Michael Ryan

According to Adams, Ryan is probably the most athletic of the Cardinal offensive linemen.

“He’s a smart guy with good technique. He’s a puller there. We like using him on counter plays. He can block people out in space and has good footwork.”

Michael Ingram

Ingram was Austin’s favorite target when the two played together on the Farmington junior high team in 2011. As a sophomore, he caught 33 passes for 425 yards with 4 touchdowns.

“He’s really aggressive catching the football,” Adams said. “Two or three times over the year he went over people to catch the football.”

Adams thinks Ingram has a chance to play college football if he continues to improve saying Ingram is a real asset to have on the football field.

Hometown Atmosphere

Warren, who transferred from Pottsville after his freshman year, has an appreciation of the slogan, “Feels like home,” adopted by the City of Farmington.

“It’s such a great slogan to describe this town,” Warren said. “I don’t feel like this is my third year. I feel like I’ve been here my whole life. This is my home.”

Harper said he will miss Warren tremendously next year.

Warren said what he likes best about Farmington High School is the people.

“Everybody is so nice. When people think of high school, they think of cliques and how everybody is so separated but whenever I moved to Farmington High School, I could talk to everybody and they could talk to me. They were welcoming. It was such a warm place to come into.”
