Lincoln Games Rescheduled

- By Mark Humphrey

LINCOLN — School closures due to illness last week forced Lincoln School District to reschedule basketball games.

After playing their regularly scheduled varsity games at Ozark last night, the balance of the week will involve making up games originally scheduled at home against Gentry on Jan. 29 and a date with U.S. 62 rival, Farmington, which was originally scheduled on Feb. 1.

In addition to the makeup games, Lincoln will close out the regular season at home against Gravette on Friday with senior night beginning at 6 p.m.

Both the Lincoln boys (1010, 6-4) and girls (16-6, 7-3) are in the thick of the conference race in the school’s first season of competing in the 4A ranks.

Lincoln athletic director and girls basketball coach Deon Birkes worked to reschedule the missed games, which will result in the senior boys and girls playing four games in four days.

“I think it could benefit. You’d always like to have a little break. It could help us, it could hurt us as far as the conference and the tournament seedings go,” Birkes said. “If we get four wins, we [Lincoln girls] could be as good as number two, if we don’t get four wins we could drop all the way to number five.”

Tim Rich, Lincoln boys coach, would prefer to have some breaks between games, noting the Wolves weren’t in bad shape or needing a rest sitting out a week without a game.

Birkes noted the rescheduling might suit the fancy of basketball fans.

“It’ll be a great week for them cause they can get their basketball every night.”

The schedule for Lincoln sports this week is as follows: Wednesday, Feb. 6: District bowling at Little Rock

Wednesday, Feb. 6: Lincoln senior boys and girls vs. Gentry - 4:30 p.m.

Thursday, Feb. 7: Lincoln senior boys and girls at Farmington -6 p.m.

Friday, Feb. 8: Lincoln senior boys and girls vs. Gravette -6 p.m.
