Congregation Thankful For Rain

- By Marsha Hedge CHURCH REPORTER MARSHA HEDGE HAS CONTRIBUTED CHURCH ARTICLES TO THE ENTERPRISELEADER FOR SEVERAL YEARS.

LINCOLN — A most welcomed sunny and relatively warm morning was the backdrop for Central United Methodist Church goers. Everyone is grateful and thankful for the much needed rainfall of the past week.

Following opening prayer and “Rock of Ages,” the following announcements were made: There will be a potluck Feb. 10, following morning worship and before the Church Council meeting. All are welcome to attend and enjoy the fellowship. Plans are being made for an Ash Wednesday service to be announced later.

We were happy to welcome back many members who had been recovering from illness and also to welcome visitors. The Lunsfords are anxiously awaiting the arrival of their son Jason as he will be home visiting from his service on the Afghanistan border.

The Call to Worship was from Psalm 71, and the scripture reading was 1 Corinthians 13:1-13. (My personal favorite scripture.) These were led by Marty Lunsford.

The congregation joined in “Oh Master, Let Me Walk with Thee” and the choir sang “Nothing Between.”

Ava joined me for Children’s Moment and we talked about how we can always talk to God anywhere and anytime and her Fruit of the Spirit dealing with patience.

The Good News message from Luke 4:21-30 was presented by the Rev. Gary Lunsford. You might ask: Why do we judge so much? Why don’t we live as Jesus instructed us to live? (To love one another without judgment)

Following Holy Communion, the altar call was “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms.”

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: “Never ruin an apology with an excuse.”
