Public Hearing Set For March 12

- By PAT HARRIS

LINCOLN —A public hearing will be held on March 12 at 7 p.m. on the rezoning of property at 17314 West U.S. 62, where the A+U Pull It business was located.

Another business would like to locate in Lincoln if the property, owned by R.D. Hopper of Jacksonville can be rezoned from A1, agriculture, to M1, light industry, according to City Manager Chuck Wood.

Wood said when the city annexed the property in from Washington County it was grandfathered in with the A1 zoning, however when A+U Pull It closed and remained closed for more than six months the grandfather clause no longer is in effect.

‘It needs to be rezoned,” Wood said, adding the company that wants to locate in Lincoln would provide about 15-20 jobs.

“Any job growth at this point would be good,” Wood said.

The business that could come in if the property is rezoned is a car repair business. The company would repair wrecked cars for insurance companies and either sell them at the U.S. 62 location or at auction, according to Wood. The company will purchase the property if the rezoning is approved.

City Clerk Barbara Barker said Alissa Sims, a Fayetteville attorney, is listed on the documents regarding the rezoning, however the company name was not included.

The Lincoln Planning Commission will meet after the public hearing to discuss the issue.

The Lincoln City Council will meet on March 12 at 8 p.m., following the public hearing and Planning Commission meeting.
