Praise For Lincoln VFW Members

- Lincoln Lifestyles MARIE ROY WCN Columnist

It was a surprise to hear of the Veteran of Foreign Wars members helping at the Cane Hill Kite Festival. Though it was a quick “stepping in at the last minute” decision after a cancellation, this is an example of what these guys do, as they live by their motto, “We honor the dead by serving the living.”

Limited space prohibits the long list of various and many ways they serve the community after having fought in a foreign war for the many freedoms we too often take for granted. All veterans deserve our thanks, especially those who just keep on giving. The Lincoln VFW Post 4675 meets the first Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m., except when it falls on a holiday, then they meet the following Monday. They are now working to equip a bus that is to be used as a mobile canteen to take to local fairs and festivals.

All veterans are encouraged to join as members in their good causes, and especially they need the help and input of younger veterans.

Thanks to the citizens of Cane Hill for recognizing those who helped at the Kite Festival.

Another good example of the caring that our part of the country is known for was Saturday evening at the National Guard Armory, when a huge crowd gathered for the fundraiser for the Keith Cox family. Hopefully, enough was raised to at least ease the burden of medical bills, along with knowing that everyone near and far, does care.

Another blessing Saturday night was the rain. I did enjoy for hours, the rolling thunder and splash of rain against the window. Three inches! A good start for spring.

Happy birthday to Hudson Cheatham, Millie Farmer, Mary Newberry, Mary Lauren Bradley, Carol Meyer, Sam King, Seth Latta, Lesley Pinkerton, Wesley Pinkerton, Elmer Williams, Jack Batson, Richard Watson.

Happy anniversary to Donald and Denise Mounce. Happy years, all. Remember recycling Monday, March 25.
