Lady Tigers Run Routs LOSS ENDS MOMENTUM

- By Ben Madrid

PRAIRIE GROVE — The Prairie Grove Lady Tiger softball squad continued to show early season excellence last week with a pair of routs against nonconference opponents.

Their momentum was stymied when they ended the week with a loss to an all too familiar foe on Thursday.

On March 11, the Lady Tigers crushed the Elkins Elks 15-0 in a 4 inning mercyrule contest. The Lady Tigers sent 23 batters to the plate and scored 13 runs in the first two innings, allowing them to set the cruise control the rest of the contest.

Madison Cluck paced the offense by going 2 for 2 with a double and two RBIs, while Kaitlin Asbil complemented Cluck with one hit and three RBIs. Addison Evans, Sidney Jaro, Brooke Ketzler, Kaleigh Witherspoon, Loren Gragg and Madison Skelton all tallied one hit in the contest.

Skelton (2-1) picked up the pitching victory by twirling four innings, with zero runs, while giving up just two hits, with six strikeouts and two base-on-balls.

On March 12 the Tiger freight train plowed over the Greenland Pirates 13-4. Kelbie Brown (3-0) kept her pitching record perfect after yielding five hits in six innings, with four strikeouts.

Jaro led Prairie Grove’s hit parade with three base knocks, while Cluck and Witherspoon followed closely with a pair of hits each. Gragg, Skelton and Asbil all contributed to the victory with two RBIs apiece.

The Tigers took it on the chin when they ended the week with a 9-3 loss to the Farmington Cardinals on Thursday. Prairie Grove’s defense committed seven errors, while the Cardinals offense banged out 13 hits against the pitching efforts of Skelton, who went all seven innings, picking up four strikeouts along the way.

On offense, Brown banged out three hits, while Evans tallied three RBIs.
