Farmington Boys Track Has New Coach For 2013
new warm-ups. It’s a reward for the boys, to have nice stuff, to be proud of what they’re wearing,” Spencer Adams said.
“He’s taking over the headaches. I still help coach it but he does all of the paperwork and buses,” Mike Adams said. “He’s been very enthusiastic about it. He’s done a good job of getting kids out there to compete at a very high level.”
The father/son tandem has been getting quality efforts and Spencer lauded their progress while maintaining a tongue in cheek self evaluation.
“Colton Shadrick is peaking I think at the right time. He’s overcome coaching. He asked to be in the long jump at Gentry and I said, ‘Sure, if you want to,’ and he wins it so he’s had to overcome coaching there.”
“Lance Wood has come on strong as a hurdler for us. He’s gotten better with every meet.”
“Corey Hueitt is our best distance guy. He ran a 2:03 in the 800 at Siloam Springs, which automatically qualified him for state.”
Spencer Adams noted Josh Blew is one of the Cardinals’ top sprinters and also mentioned Chaz Turner and Quinn Holman.
“Those are some guys who have scored good points for us.”
“Thomas Clay has come out and he works real hard. He usually throws after practice is over and is always trying to better himself which we like to see as a coach.”
Farmington is also producing at the junior high level in spite of cold weather.
“The weather has killed us,” Spencer Adams said. “We had five junior high meets scheduled and we only got to go to two of them. Not being able to go to those junior high meets hurts.
“When it’s wet people can still run on their track. We can’t cause our field is under water,” Mike Adams said.
“We went to three senior high meets before we ever got a junior high meet in. They were getting to see the high school guys run and it was real disappointing to them,” Spencer Adams said.
Spencer Adams has found a creative solution to maintaining morale among the junior high boys.
“We try to let them have fun in practice and we try not to make it real monotonous.”
Spencer Adams said Joe Bunyard has been great, winning the 200 meter, placing second in the high jump and long jump and taking fourth in the 100 meter dash at the conference junior high meet last week at Gravette.
