Writer Enjoying Spring Weather

- MARIE ROY WCN Columnist

Monday and Tuesday really made me think of Psalm 118: 24, and since I had the misfortune last week of the mower refusing to start, I took advantage of a new battery and mowed for the first time this spring.

I also pruned and cleaned out flower beds. This morning (Thursday), I am enjoying the rain and watching mocking birds hunt worms. I enjoy them and their early morning singing. I am for keeping them our state bird.

After having lost four trees last year, my pin oak died due to the drought. Speaking of dead trees, and having to take them out, made me think of a joke.

A guy walks into a hardware story and says, “I want a chain saw that will cut down ten trees in an hour.” So the clerk sells him one.

The next day the customer comes in upset,” This saw cut down only one little tree in an hour!”

The clerk says, “Let me take a look.”

He pulls the started rope and the saw roars to life.

The customer screams, “What’s that noise?”

Mr. and Mrs. Steve Crawford visited Sugar Hill Church on Sunday, and he shared some of the many Gideon accomplishments worldwide. Each of us alone, can do little, but by helping a Christian organization so much good can come of it.

Our former neighbor, Elsie Hanger, fell and broke her ankle. She seems to be doing OK, getting along with one leg and a walker. Elsie is one of us who is accused of being “too independent.”

J.C. Albright is happy to be home after having emergency heart surgery. He is reported as “doing real good.”

Happy birthday to Jerrod Bradley, Ed Bailey, Patti Stickler, Mark Latta, Charlotte Shannon, Denise Power, Marsha King, Don Bradley, Henry Huffacker, Brandon Barbosa, Billie Tucker, Bridgette Davis.

Happy anniversary to Mr. and Mrs. John Griscom, their 15th; and to Craig and Sheryl Roy, their seventh. Happy years, all. Consider — “Grandma used to set her hot- baked apple pies on the window sill to cool. Her granddaughter set theirs on the window sill to thaw.”
