Prairie Grove School Board Recognizes Students
PRAIRIE GROVE — The Prairie Grove School Board recognized two high school students who will compete this summer at the national conference for Family, Career and Community Leaders of America.
Sarah Lamont and Vivianna Haney, both juniors at Prairie Grove High, won gold medals at the state competition for their projects.
Lamont won for interior design. Her scenario was to remodel an apartment for a women who studied abroad in Italy. She named her floor plan, “Hassle Free Minimalism.”
Haney created a vintage dress using a Vogue Runway pattern for the “fashion construction” category.
Both students have been working on their projects since the beginning of the school year and will continue to make changes and improvements up until they leave for the national conference July 7-11 in Nash- ville, Tenn.
In other action, the board renewed contracts for all teachers and accepted the resignations of Melinda McGee, Louis McGee, Paula Conner and Renee Speight.
The board voted to amend its construction management contract with C.R. Crawford to include a new concession stand/ticket booth and new bathroom facility at the football field. Work should start on the project sometime this summer. The professional service contract will be finalized, pending approval from the firm on changes to the contract.
In addition, the board approved several changes to the personnel policies for certified and classified employees, as recommended by the Arkansas School Boards Association.
Two of the policies are new. One policy will allow school employees to possess a pocket knife and will allow employees to carry a small container of tear gas or mace for the purpose of selfdefense.
