Sea Mineral Use Decreases Fertilizer Costs
SILOAM SPRINGS — Dr. Lynn Buhr, owner of Sea Minerals FA, has discovered spreading Sea Mineral on his fields instead of commercial fertilizer increases production while decreasing fertilizer costs.
“Now with six years of experience of using Sea Minerals FA and no other fertilizer, I’m really happy with the results and so are a lot of other people,” Buhr said.
According to Buhr, properly extracted sea minerals contain over 90 mineral nutrients nearly identical to what’s found in a healthy animal’s blood. So instead of applying fertilizer and chicken, horse and cow manure to soil several times a year, Buhr said the same result can be achieved with three annual applications of sea mineral. He estimates costs around $24 an acre per year (in suggesting three applications) applied as a foliar spray with a projected savings of 80 percent or more compared to standard fertilizer costs.
“We see this material source and its different applications making revolutionary changes in agriculture across the Midwest, and we’re going to be growing healthier foods because we don’t have to apply as many single-quantity chemicals to the soil,” Buhr said.
Buhr has a degree in mechanical engineering and a doctorate in chiropractic medicine but is fascinated with improving soil.
“We were always looking toward better quality, better living conditions for us and the animals and better soil conditions,” Buhr said, adding that he and his wife, Pat, who operate Rocky Springs Ranch, at Siloam Springs, are interested in soil improvement, organic farming and grass-fed beef.
Buhr said he has found a major factor in replenishing soil is the use of sea minerals as fertilizer. The couple run Arabian horses and 160 head of commercial Black Angus cattle on 500 acres they own with another 200 acres leased.
“We can now afford to fertilize leased ground and we do,” Buhr said, adding the landowners like that.
