Business Owner Makes Spring Move

- By Pat Harris

PRAIRIE GROVE — Marie Phillips, owner of Prairie Grove Builders Supply, said this spring things are changing.

First came the recent move to a new location at 15772 Hwy. 62.

“We still haven’t gotten everything together and in place,” Phillips said.

Another recent change has been to specialize in farm and feeding and gardening supplies, moving away from hardware and building supplies.

Warmer spring weather means people are planting gardens and Phillips said the store also carries gardening products such as Natural Guard. Flowers by Bonnie are also available for spring planting.

Some of the farm and animal products found at the business include Tindle and PenPal brands for horses, cows, sheep, goats and pigs; Amana Pro supplements for animals’ Chafhay, pasture in a bag, which Phillips said could only be found in a few places in the region; and for smaller animals Victor dog food, Shawnee dog food and Diamond dog and cat food. PVM or positive mineral licks and Hi-Yield also can be found at the store.

For muscles or bone aches, there’s Two Old Goats. a rubbing cream Phillips said works for those who have tried it and returned to the store to buy more. The dark blue bottle states it is good for arthritis and fibromyalgia.

Phillips pointed out baskets of Uncle Jim’s old fashioned soap on the counter.

“Sulphur soap is good for killing fleas and ticks on animals,” Phillips said. More old-fashioned soap includes lye, tea tree and oatmeal.

For spring and summer fishermen, the store has hunting and fishing license for sale.

Phillips said she is the only employee and has been in business for three years.
