Lincoln Man Faces Multiple Charges
LINCOLN —A Lincoln police officer was dispatched to investigate sounds of a shotgun last week and instead found the blasts were coming from chemical bombs made by mixing rubbing alcohol and chlorine in a Mountain Dew bottle, according to a preliminary report filed with the Washington County Prosecuting Attorney’s office.
Steve Swain, 43, of 305 N. West Ave., told the officer that his son and friends were making the “chemical” bombs in the back of the house.
Upon entering the house, officers reported they could smell marijuana. The police report says that the officers found a gun and drugs in the house and that Swain admitted to smoking marijuana.
Police arrested Swain on May 5 and he is facing felony charges of firstdegree child endangerment, possession of a firearm by a certain person, simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and possession of drug paraphernalia. He also faces misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance (marijuana), possession of drug paraphernalia and three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Lincoln Police Chief Russell Morphis on Friday said the three juveniles, two 15-year-old boys and a 14-year-old boy, are facing felony criminal use of a prohibited weapon. They have been charged as juveniles and will appear in juvenile court.
