Changing Weather Includes May Snow

- Lincoln Lifestyles MARIE ROY WCEL Columnist MARIE ROY IS A LIFELONG RESIDENT OF LINCOLN AND HAS WRITTEN FOR THE ENTERPRISE-LEADER FOR MORE THAN 30 YEARS.

We have found that sometimes the weather in Arkansas shakes us up, as in the earthquake, devastating ice storms, tornadoes, and so forth. Last year, records were set because of the lack of rain for extended periods. But now, a one- to two-inch snow in northwest Arkansas in May! Now, this is a record that probably won’t be broken. Thankfully, it soon melted and nothing was damaged.

I didn’t get the lawn mowed this week for the best reason ever. It rained.

Limited space prevents full coverage of this month’s activities. We have seven graduates in our extended family and sometimes there are two or three events in one day. We attended one service Sunday at Farming- ton Baptist Church where 20 members of the church and graduating class were recognized in the ceremony. Later, we enjoyed viewing the tables where each graduate was displaying photos, awards and other mementos of their 12 years of school. Some tables were covered with quilts made from tshirts collected from t-ball through 12th grade.

For some reason, ticks appeared early this spring, and are really bad. At one time, we could buy “tick granules” to spread on the lawn, and control the ticks to some extent. Whatever is available now does no good. So if you are outside any at all, even in your yard, check for them often, for you never know when one might cause serious illness.

Also of concern are the rabies cases, already 46 positive cases in the state, including a cow in Madison County, and a dog in Washington County. Be especially aware of skunks and the veterinarian definitely warns against keeping them as pets.

This Sunday, May 19, is decoration at Academy, Bug Scuffle, Cemetery Hill, Cox Dutch Mills, EightySix, Garret Creek, Howell, Illinois Chapel, Lewis, Lincoln, Sharp, Wickwire cemeteries.

Happy birthday to David Tate, Ann Smith, Dennis Smith, Roland Bailey, Cody Chambliss, Chelle Kelly, Jack Thompson, Bayli Bradley, Jackqueline Abshier.

Happy anniversary to Ronnie and Annell Cochran.

Happy years, all!
