Lincoln Hosts Car Show

EVENT LABELED NOT ORDINARY

- By Pat Harris ENTERPRISE-LEADER

LINCOLN — All types of vehicles from shiny to rusty will be rolling onto the downtown square this Saturday for the annual Chicken Rod Nationals, sponsored by the Lincoln Area Chamber of Commerce.

Billed as “Not Your Ordinary Car Show,” the first event last year brought in more than 170 vehicles and this year is expected to bring in even more, according to Ken Reeves, Chamber president, and Doug Hutchens, Chamber member.

We’re really excited about this year’s event,” Reeves said, adding the Mobile Chassis Dyno by Track Lab out of St. Louis will be a big feature.

“Dyno can tell the horse power, torque and speed of a vehicle,” Hutchens said. “It’s the first one to be brought to Northwest Arkansas.

“It is something different this year and we’re the only car show in this area to have this.” Reeves added. “You can put a car on it to see what it can do. There will be a lot of smoke, noise and a lot of fun.”

Cost for the Dyno will be $60, according to Hutchens.

Reeves and Hutchens expect a good turnout for this second annual event.

“We’ve had quite a few pre- register,” Hutchens said. “Most of those who came last year said they would be back and they are bringing friends. There will be everything from Volk-swagons to restored tractor rigs coming into the city of Lincoln.”

Reeves said community involvement has been great this year. He said the Masons Lodge will have a fundraiser breakfast Saturday morning and different school groups including sports teams are sponsoring good concessions, including one group selling snow-cones.

“We’re always looking for ways to raise money and this is a way anybody in the city can take advantage of a big event like this,” Reeves said.

Th e Chamber of Commerce also uses the car show event as its main fundraiser in order to fund Christmas On the Square each year.

“It’s a huge crowd that comes in and economically it helps,” Reeves said. “We’re expecting a larger turnout than last year, and we welcome everybody to Lincoln to see the cars and trucks.”

Reeves said this car show is different in the fact it is not specific. “This car show is for these guys who find cars in old chicken houses, get them fixed up or just has an old car and wants to show it off.”

Many Lincoln businesses helped in sponsoring certain aspects of the event such as the t- shirts that go to the first hundred who register to helping the Chamber with expenses to bring in the Dyno.

The event is June 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with judging starting at noon. There’s a $20 entry fee, concession and door prizes.

Classes include Best Chopped, Best Engine, Best Paint, Most Rust, Oldest, Best Unrestored, Least Original, Best Use of Wood, Best Show Car and more. Plaques and awards will be given to winners.

Kelly Bradley will DJ the event again this year. “She did a good job last year,” Hutchens said.

Reeves said many of the Chamber members have worked hard on the event.

“I’m really proud of all the Chamber members who have gone above and beyond,” Reeves said. “They are really an asset to the community. And it’s good to see the community come together.”
