Filing Has Begun For School Board Elections

- By Lynn Kutter ENTERPRISE-LEADER

Anyone interested in running for school board this fall can pick up a candidate’s packet at the Washington County Clerk’s office or the administration office for the Lincoln, Prairie Grove and Farmington school districts.

The period to circulate petitions and gather qualified signatures opened June 10. A candidate can file to run for school board with the county clerk’s office from July 2 through noon July 9. The school election will be held Sept. 17.

Candidates must be registered voters in their respective school districts. To file for office, candidates must have signatures from 20 registered voters. There is no filing fee.

Farmington and Prairie Grove both have at- large elections for school board. Lincoln has a zoned school board and board members must live in the zone they represent and only registered voters in that zone can vote.

In Prairie Grove, Position 4 on the School Board will be open in the school election. Board member Lanny Rice now holds that position and Rice has announced that he will not run for re-election.

In Farmington, Position 1 will be open on the school election. This position was held by Wesley Stevens, who recently resigned. The Farmington School Board appointed Travis Warren to fill the vacancy and Warren has indicated he plans to run for the position in September.

In Lincoln, the position for Zone 4 will be on the election ballot. This position currently is held by board President Dax Moreton and he plans to run for re-election. Anyone running for the Zone 4 seat must have signatures from 20 registered voters who live within the Zone 4 boundaries.
