Hay Bales Decorate Countryside

- MARIE ROY WCN Columnist

What better way to decorate the countryside for a few days than with fields of hundreds of bales of hay. It’s a sharp contrast to last year about this time and a good time to pray the best prayer of all — Thank you, Lord.

Some farmers have the problem of running out of storage space — what a problem! And if the rains continue, there’s time for another cutting or two.

The little mockingbird peepers have flown the coop — ‘er the nest, and the mother no longer meets me at the mailbox. Since the eggs hatched, she would fly down and sit on the mailbox each time I went out for the morning paper or the afternoon mail. I would put my hand on the box and she never moved, but if I tried to pet her, she would peck me twice. I finally got her message. As I walked away she would fly at me and I felt her feet hit my hair or shoulder. There are several in the yard to pick up worms after I mow.

I wish everyone a happy, healthy, safe July 4th as we celebrate our independence and freedoms that we too often take for granted.

The fourth starts the month of Americans favorite pass times — reunions and eating, so July is family reunion month, recreation and parks month, as well as blueberry, hot dog, backed beans, horseradish, pecan, ice cream and grilling month; also car care, straw hat, poetry and humor month.

Happy birthday to Ricky Myers, Brian Bradley, Billy Joe Reed, Ralph Moore, Lahaya Bentley, Kim Lyons, Alicia Woffard, Cindy Sparkman, Kelly Bridges, Chris Cooper, Emmalyn Johnson, Angila Bradley, Opal Carter, Brooke Bradley, Eulimma Harvey.

Happy anniversary to Luther and Betty Thompson, Kenny and Debbie Butler, Ken and Marcie Ryan, Garland and Ann Smith. Happy years, all. Remember recycling Monday, July 8.
