Latta Family Holds 65th Reunion

EVENT TAKES PLACE JUNE 8 IN PRAIRIE GROVE

The Hugh Thomas/ Mary Dorcas Latta family held their 65th consecutiv­e reunion on June 8 in the Latta Barn at Prairie Grove. About 70 people attended the reunion from Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Arizona.

Darius Copley, reunion president, welcomed everyone. After lunch, Erma Nunemaker read a tribute to the late Delmer Latta written by his wife Odessa.

Five men were chosen to try and remember things concerning their wife, children and parents such as anniversar­ies, birthdays and full names. Afterward, a representa­tive from each family told of the year’s happenings in their household.

Darius presen ted Dewayned Cruchfield with a Tucson Fire Department T- shirt for his sacrificia­l care-giving this year.

The group played a game with clues of something no one ever knew about a certain person, including never broken a bone, had surgery or been to an emergency room (Laura Latta); drove all over England and the continenta­l U.S. without a driver’s license (Earnest Latta); covered little brother with mud from head to toe and all that could be seen were his eyes (Seth Latta); wore a dress while my mother washed my only pair of pants ( Albert Copley); gave my brother stitches with black thread and sterilized the needle with a match (Richard Spilman); only half Latta and came for the food (Dole Stephenson); helped put my dad in a barrel and rolled him down a steep hill (Mark Latta); at young age PaPaw taught me how to witch for water with a green branch (Larissa Latta; tried to pull poisonous snake our of a barn when little (Erma Nenemaker); yo-yo champ in Sand Spring, Okla. (Dewayne Crutchfiel­d).

The Latta reunion will be held the second Saturday in June 2014 at the Latta Barn. The Reed Reunion will be held Oct. 12, 2013, at the American Legion in Lincoln.
