Progress Being Made At Library
LINCOLN — Progress is being made on the site for the new Lincoln Public Library, according to Chuck Wood, city manager.
“The process of digging for the foundation is done, rebar is placed and concrete pouring is scheduled,” Wood said. “A drainage system has been put into place behind the library in the alley and once the footers are poured, electricians will run conduit that will be placed in the foundation for electricity and cables.”
The Lincoln City Council at its July 8 meeting had before them a resolution for a change order to the contract with SSI Incorporated of
NW Arkansas, the contractor hired to build the library.
It was discovered during the course of dirt work that the soil was not reaching proper compaction levels, so this required the building footprint to be shifted about 30-inches in order to allow for additional excavation and compaction, which increased the contract sum by $11,632.
Council members approved the change order bringing the original total from $1,270,000 to $1,281,632,
Bret Park with Park Company Architects, Inc., of Fayetteville is the architect of the new library.
Rhonda Hulse, grant writer and water depart- ment manager, told aldermen the city had received $ 10,000 from the office of State Rep Charlene Fite.
The money is to be used for fencing at the new fun park on East and North streets and for patron computers at the new library.
The only other business at the council meeting was a report from Alderman Doug Hutchens on the May distribution of city sales tax, which totaled $18,519 bringing the capital improvement account to $431,120.
May distribution for the library sales tax was $18,519 with 80 percent going toward library costs and 20 percent going to parks and recreation.
